Joe Wright, the BAFTA Award-winning director of "Pride & Prejudice," has reunited with his filmmaking team and his Academy Award-nominated actress, Keira Knightley, for another classic British romance, starring James mcavoy (BAFTA Award nominee for "The Last King of Scotland") opposite Ms. Knightley. Christopher Hampton (Academy Award winner for "Dangerous Liaisons") has written the screenplay adaptation of Ian mcewan's best-selling 2002 novel Atonement. Shot on location in the UK, the film's story spans several decades. In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony's vivid imagination. Robbie Turner (Mr. mcavoy), the educated son of the family's housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony's headstrong older sister Cecilia (Ms. Knightley). Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony -- who has a crush on Robbie -- is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Saw this movie yesterday. Didn't like the sappy thingy in the beginning. Not my kind of thing. But then it grew more serious and intense. Good movie all in all.
I really enjoyed this movie
Does anybody know what the song is that starts around 1:26???
seriousely this is my favourite movie of all time!
AWESOME!!!
@skeletinjsh its based off of a book, im not sure its a true story though.
This is an AWESOME movie!!!
Sorry for the vulgarity but that little girl is a bitch. how can she do that!!! pissed me off..
yes it is an amazing movie and the music is just breathtaking!
Love this film
@Christoph52 I saw it the night i wrote that video comment and omigosh, i cried so much at the end!! It was so sad, but it was one of the best movies ever. Keira Knightley, as usual, was practically flawless in acting and Romola Garai (older Briony) is one of my fave actresses. The entire cast was just perfect and the story is so sad.
@wicked101elphie oh my goodness, you have to seev this movie, it's so sad, but so good.
no, a novel by Ian McEwan
I have goosebumps, too! Such an incredible film...
omg, i have goosebumps after watching the trailer. it looks like a great movie and i absolutely adore Keira Knightley
so this is based on a true story???
The movie is sublime, but I don't like this trailer.
The Little girl all grown up didn't actually go and see Robbie and Cellia. But in her book that she wrote, she made it all up so that Robbie and Celia could have their happy ending. But in real life they actually died
I didnt get the end...
awesome trailer
@ZoeBubuRoccoJoe
oh, i feel exactly the same!!
i dont dare to see the film cuz of the hurt i know im gonna feel for them
:(
The first half of the trailer can be found on the soundtrack by dario marianelli. However at the 2:10 mark the rest of that piece was written by X-Ray Dog specifically for the trailer. It's called "the vesion". That piece is not apart of the soundtrack and can not be purchased.
I absolutely love this movie. Amazing. Simply amazing.
The only flaw is that it's a child lying based on her need for revenge. Adults do the same for even more selfish & petty reasons & never admit wrongdoing. It's too easy for some to destroy others without a second thought. Lies destroyed my life. No remorse.
Absolutely stunning film.
