www.goodhairmovie.net In Theaters This OCTOBER!!! Check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com When Chris Rocks daughter, Lola, came up to him crying and asked, Daddy, how come I don't have good hair? the bewildered comic committed himself to search the ends of the earth and the depths of black culture to find out who had put that question into his little girl's head! Director Jeff Stilsons camera followed the funnyman, and the result is Good Hair, a wonderfully insightful and entertaining, yet remarkably serious, documentary about African American hair culture. An exposé of comic proportions that only Chris Rock could pull off, Good Hair visits hair salons and styling battles, scientific laboratories, and Indian temples to explore the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people. Celebrities such as Ice-T, Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Maya Angelou, and Reverend Al Sharpton all candidly offer their stories and observations to Rock while he struggles with the task of figuring out how to respond to his daughters question. What he discovers is that black hair is a big business that doesnt always benefit the black community and little Lolas question might well be bigger than his ability to convince her that the stuff on top of her head is nowhere near as important as what is inside.

I hope this gets released on DVD soon. I like the premise of the movie.

I'M A PROUD EAST-AFRICAN WHO HAS SOFT CURLY HAIR AND SO DOES MY FAMILY AND IS BORN AND RAISED IN EUROPE BUT I'M STILL AFRICAN! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO'S STILL CAUGHT UP ON THE SLAVERLY THING AND SUFFERS FROM WILLER SYNDROM THINGY !!! YOU're MAKING A BIG DEAL OF ME SAYING THAT ALL BLACK PEOPLE HAVE NOT NAPPY HAIR BUT I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH YOU SAYING THAT EAST'AFRICAN ARE NOT BLACK ENOUGH , BUT ATLEAST MY STATEMENT IS TRUE YOU RETARD
Emancipate myself from mental slavery cause i dont mentally think like that but you clearly do cause you were the one who brought up the whole slaverly thing! I just said that me and my family have soft curly hair , why do have to make into a big deal . It's seems like you have something against east-africans!!!! . My comments are not disguisting , yours are . I was just proving that all black people doesnt have nappy hair but you only consider afro-americans as black people but that's not true!
IprinceMajestic what is wrong with you ? . I seriously think you should seek some help . I'm not mixed and i'm from africa so i'm 100% african . I dont get you !?? Eastafricans are not black enough for you but afro-americans are ?! Do you know how ridiculus you sound! , I'm from somalia and somalians were never shipped to America so somalis have NEVER been slaves and never will so dont tell me to
I'm not ignorant person here clearly , you're the one who thinks that afro-americans are the only people that are black , so AFRICANS ARE NOT BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU ! . All black people in meaning (everyone who has dark skin what else ?) Maybe most of afro-americans have nappy hair but not ALL BLACK PEOPLE . How stupid are you ? Afro-americans are not the only people in the whole wide world who's black !!!
Thank you the author and I'll research his works. From Cheikh Anta Diop and Ivan Van Sertima's researchs, they explain the African gene pool and its spread throughout the world. All of their books are a good read & speeches are wonderful (IMO). They're the reason for why I stated kinky and coarse hair types aren't uncommon in the nonblack "race" gene pools. Just thought I give you other researchers to see if his some if his research correlates with Nuwaubianism.
So don't get on here making a complete fool of yourself and BLACK people in front of a large audience.
You suffer from the Willie Lynch Syndrome!
You really need to sit down before you get hurt b/c your comments are disgusting.
I'm eager to know what country or ethnic group are you from?
My wife is from The Gambia and she doesn't use phrases like, "im 100% afrikan, you afro-americans, etc.) like your confused behind!
The Omo tribe of Ethiopia and all the indigenous tribes of the Omo Valley that includes most of East and Northeast Afrika look nothing like the people that we see there today (i.e. Haile Selassie I).
So really, while you're in Sweden pretending to be European..who are you really trying to fool?
What the hell is 100% african? If you are from East Afrika, especially the horn of Afrika (i.e. Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti,), you're not even 100% BASED ON YOUR CONCEPT. The horn of Afrika was the first to be colonialized or invaded by Europeans and Arab barbarians centuries ago.
And if you think they didn't tap into the women when they got there you're more of a fool then you sound!
You're 100% confused! "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery"- Bob Marley
What planet are you from! I normally try not to argue w/ my people on here b/c you have idiots like gscarface13 who are watching! But do you know how ignorant you sound!?!?
"By the way all black people does not have nappy hair maybe most of Afro-Americans may have nappy hair."
Based on your poor contradictive analysis, "afro-americans" aren't black b/c you said "all BLACK people does not have nappy hair maybe most of AFRO-AMERICANS."
BLACK PEOPLE HAVE NAPPY HAIR
We dont use chemicals , it's all nautral and if i had nappy hair i wouldnt use relaxer . By the way all black people does not have nappy hair maybe most of AFRO-AMERICANS may have nappy hair. I'm 100% african and got curly soft hair !
In fact, its so rare it is considered a syndrome - wooley hair syndrome/naxos syndrome.
Also, it is so rare scientists can't even study it b/c subjects are mere in existence & don't even have that much information about it.
So it is highly unlikely that we have ran across one of these individuals.
Malachi York discusses the different hair textures in one of his scrolls as he referes to it as Ether-9.
Regardless, "nappy" hair isn't bad.
I'm not taking it that way. I think dialogue is good.
Hair biologists and geneticists agree that hair is determined by thickness and texture. On a microscopic level the cross-section of a hair follicle produces four hair textures: straight, wavy, curly and spiraled coiled-"nappy."
Although caucasians may regularly produce straight to curly hair, it is EXTEMELY rare that they can produce spiraled coiled hair. In fact, we will rarely witness a caucasian with true "nappy" hair.
Black people have NAPPY HAIR
btw, I have meet non-mixed people (mostly jewish and arab people) with hair so naturally tightly curly that it could be defined as kinky. The majority of asians like Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese and indigenous people have coarse hair.
Thank you. I sorry if it seems like I'm agruing (I'm really not), but there are white, arabs, indigenous, and asian people with coarse hair. Also, people with curly hair often have coarse hair. I've seen and felt plenty of heads and meet many folks from all over. With all of these styling products like gels, flat irons, and curling irons and techniques to "thin" the hair, it's difficult to tell whose hair is naturally fine, coarse, curly/wavy, or straight.
I almost agree w/ you 100%. Every race on earth came from the Blackwoman so she still lingers in every gene pool that may produce a variation of hair textures everywhere on the globe including very kinky hair.
With that in mind, coarse hair MAY be found in any "race." But it is highly unlikely you find a cacausian person with extremely kinky hair. .
My wife & my babies love their kinky nappy hair.... so do I!
That's what I thought, couch potatoe!
Shhh
@ Wendzy1
You must be black.
What type of empty shallow statement is that? To categorically say "Black people have Nappy hair," is an inferior childish analysis of the various texture of hair amongst our people.
That's just like saying all black people in the world have on shade of color!
Your comments is almost as naive as your name.
i love my nappy hair!
Black people have Nappy hair.
