Good movie, but if you've seen American Beauty you can skip this one. It's a slightly weaker repeat.

@RobinhooodGFX No it's more like
TITANIC 2 - JACK IS BACK :P lol

This movie kind of freaked me out. It's just so awful that some people are so miserable with the way their lives turned out and this is what happens. I had chills when it ended it was so good and somewhat depressing. They're both amazing actors

MoonXxXprincess on March 8, 2010 at 12:59

hah...this is a perfect example of alienation... I don't know you but i do feel that you're alienated in the comfort of conventionality Midojaix

RobinhooodGFX on March 8, 2010 at 14:05

Titanic 2 - Jack lived

southernlovin85 on March 8, 2010 at 14:13

I read Matt Damon was considered for Leo's role. Anybody think that would've diminished the quality of the movie?

Jordy125 on March 8, 2010 at 14:53

Distressing Themes. It's actually quite dark at times D:

But i thought it was really good.

tafaaash on March 8, 2010 at 15:34

you noticed that too ? maybe it changed because of the american accent

thegiantpaperpanda on March 8, 2010 at 16:01

@midojaix87
Although I truly adore the novel, I would agree. Yes, living static and by all accounts mediocre life can leave you unsatisfied, but like you said. No one's life is perfect and all of us have to accept that on some level we will mostly be just ordinary. Is it fair to have to stifle the urgency of your greatest aspirations? No. It's not. But that's life. If I were them I would just try to save for a trip to Paris. It won't be like living there but at least I got to go.

missaussiegirl01 on March 8, 2010 at 16:59

MetthewRecherdson on March 8, 2010 at 17:19

Think all the cast did an awesome job! The result - this amazing movie! Also thanks to [BIG-SCREEN]dottinfo for the chance to see it!

midojaix87 on March 8, 2010 at 17:30

a perfect example of people not being grateful for what they have, life isn't perfect for anyone, but why for a second, can't we just be content with the good we have and stop being dissatisfied with everything, they were responsible for their own misery and created their own problems,

flowertree100 on March 8, 2010 at 17:58

Toocrazyforthisworld on March 8, 2010 at 18:32

As an 108 year old, you really ought to know what a HUGE difference "more liberal socially" makes.

But if you don't, just ask any black person over 60 whether things are better now. Or any woman who got pregnant out of wedlock back then. Or anyone victimized by domestic abuse or rape. Or any homosexual. Or anyone accused of being communist. Or any Hispanic who had wanted to be a manager in a bank. Or any Jewish person who attended college. Or even the regular people who lived in suburbia...

kitycalifornia on March 8, 2010 at 21:53

The cookie cutter houses and mundane careers are still alive and well. Sorry Eye, I don't see how things are better, aside for America being a bit more liberal socially. We have a lot to learn from our European Counterparts. Best.

EyeLean5280 on March 8, 2010 at 21:56

@lifedivinus, yes.

EyeLean5280 on March 8, 2010 at 22:01

@kitycalifornia, I think it explores the idiocy & boredom of the 1950s suburbs.

While there are some universal themes in the story, it is set in a particular time and place, that had its own spirit. It was a very difficult moment in the history of the American family, partly because of the war and also how people were struggling to define what the suburbs were going to be. There was tremendous pressure to conform.

Things aren't nearly as bad now as they were then.
