Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River, Pollock) plays Bliss disapproving mother, while Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) and Juliette Lewis (Old School) play roller-derby stars. In Theaters October 2!

It was pretty predictable, but that doesnt mean it wasnt a good story. I thought this was a great little movie about motivation and doing what you love, no matter what anyone says.

Drew doesn't do pretentious crap - she does emotional truth and she has put a lot of her own life experiences and life lessons into this work Okay no you're right it is pretentious. But all her films have heart and humour they enguage not exclude people - as truely pretentious arty farty films do.. Drew didn't make this to get an Oscar she wanted to entertain and tell a story and take what she'd learnt as a producer and actress and put that into directing. WHIP IT is a film I want to see.

That's not what pretentious means. You're talking about cliche or predictable. Not pretentious. And I can see how it could be pretentious (haven't actually seen this movie) but pretentious doesn't necessarily mean bad. It just means pretentious.

I agree, the trailer starts with twilight (girl moving to a new town) , has the unpopular girl in the middle(similar to the girl from shes all that), and ends with a really cliche laden montage of predictability.
